We’re going to Copenhagen to protest the lack of democracy in the process.

The International Advertising Association has teamed up with Coca Cola, SAP and Siemens to run a high profile campaign for the Copenhagen summit. They’ve definitely got a great website, all credit to the lads and lasses. They’ve sold us a lot of Plasma TVs and Chicken Nuggets so its good to have them on board. Vacuous talk from the head of the WTO

In an astonishing display of hypocrisy, Pascal Lamy, the head of the WTO, has called for “a system to assist human society to achieve its common purpose in a sustainable manner, that is, with equity and justice“.

He goes on to say that “the very credibility of domestic democracies is at risk if global governance does not find its own democratic credentials. If citizens feel that the issues which affect them daily cannot be adequately dealt with.” Continue reading ‘Vacuous talk from the head of the WTO’

US says it won’t commit at Copenhagen

The US is scaling down hopes for a deal at the critical climate change talks in Copenhagen, suggesting that it doesn’t have enough time to work out what it can commit to before December, and looking at a date ‘late next year’. Obama’s playing for time to find a solution that will avoid major curbs on US industry (so that he can get re-elected) while also committing to reduction of carbon emissions. Amartya Sen on the idea of justice

Amartya Sen spoke earlier this month to the Carnegie Council about his new book “The Idea of Justice”.

He says some very interesting things, like “the need for impartiality in the treatment of different citizens within the country is accepted and celebrated, but there is no secure place in this formulation of deliberations of justice to go beyond the citizens of a particular state.” Continue reading ‘Amartya Sen on the idea of justice’

World Vote Now film

We’re linking up with Joel Marsden, the Madrid-based director of World Vote Now to arrange a number of screenings of his film across the UK.

The film is premiering at the Amsterdam International Documentary Festival in November.
